COVID-19 Update

 Philmont Scout Ranch
High Adventure Trip 2022

As the start of the Philmont 2022 summer season approaches, we ask that all Advisors and Reservation Contacts please review the following pertinent information related to COVID-19 mitigation and BSA registration.

Prior to arrival all advisors must enter their BSA membership numbers into the gateway portal. This is an additional element of documentation recommended for all crews in 2022.

All crews will be expected to abide by the following:

Before arriving at Philmont:

• All participants will be required to provide proof of vaccination, or a negative test taken within 3-5 days of arrival at Philmont.

• Negative tests can be at home, self-administered. A time stamped picture of the results is sufficient documentation.

• Vaccination means a full complement of vaccines with a booster. This does not need to be within 6 months though we strongly recommend you stay current.

At Philmont:

• Masks will be required in all indoor settings.

• Masks will not be provided to crews; all participants should bring with them a CDC approved face covering.

• Participants are encouraged to continue to mask where they feel comfortable (i.e., in large groups).

The Why:

This summer Philmont will have over 25,000 people visiting the ranch. The health and safety of everyone involved is essential in helping Philmont to deliver wilderness and learning adventures that last a lifetime.

While many states no longer have masking or COVID-19 regulations, Philmont will have visitors arriving from across the country that are both vaccinated and unvaccinated. Masking guidelines will allow us to once again open up elements of Philmont’s program that were not available in 2021 such as dining halls and large group gatherings.

Preserving the health of our staff members as they live on site for 3 months is also of the highest importance. Keeping them healthy ensures that participants are able to receive world class program.

Elevation can also create symptoms in otherwise healthy participants than can reflect those of COVID-19 including shortness of breath, fatigue, headaches, nausea, vomiting and coughing. Pre-screening helps our infirmary to better determine the best patient care to give.
